100 Foot Tall Film Night | The Great Wall of Oakland

For special events, and on select first Fridays during Oakland Art Murmur, the Great Wall of Oakland, a 100 ′x 100′ projection installation, illuminates the Uptown District with cutting-edge motion art from around the world.

The Great Wall of Oakland is located at the corner of Broadway and West Grand Avenue in downtown Oakland.

Please note, due to unexpected wet conditions, the First Friday screening is cancelled for March. MobileIntent will curate a selection of films for their April 1st First Friday.

The Great Wall of Oakland is proud to present Borderless Imaginary, Tar and Feathers, the world premiere of MobileInTent’s latest production, a site-specific installation of sculptural works, performance, music and video projection directed by Ann Schnake. This provocative work explores the poetics of borders and distribution of resources, and the collision between tenderness and greed.

About MobileInTent:

MobileIntent is a creative production of Ann Schnake and other artists who push boundaries between art and ideas. The project began in 2012 as a studio installation, performance site, meeting place, research platform, and interruption. MobileInTent’s process is to investigate social conditions, build sculptural elements, movement, and narratives specific to site, for performance and engagement.

“A wooden boat sails on the sea of unstable times with live performance, video projection, wooden puppets, post apocalyptic balls and hoop skirts, ethereal projections of soft walls onto hard walls, small actions made large; In this performance and installation, borders merge between mediums, ecological and economic stability, and questions of distribution.”
