Event Details

Join them for a screening of this very important Oscar-nominated documentary, the title of which refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.”

Director Ava DuVernay uses archival footage and testimony from activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated men and women to illustrate how that second qualifying clause has become a way to promote mass criminalization and the American prison industry.
