Event Details

Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, 150 years ago on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1863.  Appreciate how far we’ve come at the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation celebration at Bayview Opera House on January 1, 2013.

150 Years Emancipation Proclamation & Kwanzaa Activities:

  • Musical performance by Awon Ohun Omnira Choir
  • Spirituals sung by acclaimed opera singer Dr. Susheel Bibbs
  • Emancipation Proclamation history exhibit by historian Bill Doggett
  • Art show by collaborator The Village Project
  • Kwanzaa Ceremony: Imani – Faith

The event will start outside at Mendell Plaza (Oakdale/Third), then move inside to the Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre inside the Bayview Opera House.
