Event Details

For one day, big brother can be watched by you.

YBCA is proud to join over 100 film and video exhibitors nationwide in showing this adaptation of George Orwell’s terrifying (and timely) dystopian novel 1984 on April 4, the “cold day in April” on which the novel and film begin.

1984 Free Screening Day
Tuesday, April 4, 2017 | 1pm and 3:30pm
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission Street, SF
FREE

The late John Hurt is Winston Smith, a faceless drone laboring in a totalitarian society dominated by the supreme figurehead Big Brother. Smith’s rebellious affair with a free-thinking comrade (Suzanna Hamilton) soon lands them both on the radar of O’Brien (Richard Burton, in his final role), a sympathetic government official who may be more than he seems.
