Welcome to the funcheap.com beta!
We’ve finally made the jump from yahoo groups onto our own site. There’s bound to be some things that work great, and some things that are frustrating, so we’d love your feedback.
What’s New:
A New Website
oh yea.. we’re soooo sad to see yahoo groups go bye bye! we’ve been shackled to that buggy ball and chain for far too long. Our new site is actually a modified blog, so there’s bound to be some growing pains, but we’re very excited! there is one area where we are stuck with yahoo groups for the time being: the emailing list. we’ll be switching over to our own emailing list soon, but for now, we’ll still handle the emailing lists through the yahoo groups interface.
New Format For Emails
We’ve reformmatted our emails based on tons of user feedback to give you our top picks of the week with photos, venues and a brief description. Then at the bottom, we’ll give you the big list that you’re used to… with all of the fun and cheap events that we’ve uncovered. We would love to get your feedback on the new email format. What do you like about it? What doesn’t work? and what would you love to see incorporated?
A New Website URL (for now) sf.funcheap.com
For the time being, www.funcheap.com and www.funcheapSF.com will still send you to the yahoo group. The beta website will be http://sf.funcheap.com. Eventually, and when we’re finally ready to do the official switch-over, we will have all urls point to this website.
Please leave your suggestions as a comment to this blog entry. Your constructive criticism (or praise) would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

I *love* it!!
The whole design of the page, and its contents:
The brief list of most current/next few days’ upcoming links up top is great, as is the monthly calendar on the right
The google maps in each entry is fab.
The bloglike, yet not, design is cool.
I love that there is a * rating, and that there’s a ‘comments’ field.
I feel like the scrollable ‘Top Picks’ is a nice personal touch, and the ‘Win Free ….” box on the right is just the right bit of promotion…
I hope the sponsors in your links make it worthwhile for you. (and I love the teeny font size you’ve used for them,on the right under the calender: keep it that way: small)
Great job, folks.

The new site looks great! Thanks for posting my event, and of course…thanks for keep keeping us up-to-date on all the cool things our town has to offer. The maps and extended entries are a very welcome addition.

thanks sean! i appreciate the comments. once i learn a little more wordpress i might be able to add some more features to the website like the ability to have your own customized calendar, muni/bart information for venues, reminders or a way to find other friends who want to go to the same show. if you have any suggestions for ways to make the site better, please let me know!

is it possible to have the event info downloadable as a vcs file so that it could be directly added to calendars?
Alternatively publishing event info as a google calendar would also work.
