Local comedian and show producer Justin McClure adds a much needed comedy venue to the San Francisco comedy scene by reviving comedy at the Purple Onion. The Purple Onion, swanky in design and rich in history, is known for showcasing legendary greats such as Richard Pyror, Lenny Bruce, Smothers Brothers, Phyllis Diller, Maya Angelou, and Woody Allen. In addition, local greats such as Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Will Durst, and Greg Proops have known to ‘drop-in’ for surprise guest sets. No existing structure has such stature in the history of San Francisco’s bohemian comedians, and its subterranean walls echo each Wednesday with laughter in this weekly professional stand-up showcase.
