From sliding into home and making a diving catch to pitcher duals, brawls and beanings, 2006 Izzie Award winner for choreography who grew up dreaming of dancing for Balanchine and being the first female pitcher for the Yankees aims to show the sheer fun, athleticism and simmering impulses behind America’s game with a unique dance performance with nine dancers over three weekends of free performances in public parks throughout September.
Choreographer and ODC Artist-in-Residence Chris Black—awarded an Izzie in April along with co-creator Ken James for her choreography of 2006’s well-received Cunning and Guile—loads the bases in 2007 with her latest work, Pastime. Performances are scheduled to take place in Justin Herman Plaza Park, Precita Park and Golden Gate Park’s Peacock Meadow on the weekend afternoons of 9/15, 9/16, 9/22, 9/23, 9/29, 9/30. All performances are FREE.9/15-16 Justin Herman Plaza Park
9/22-23 Precita Park
9/29-30 Golden Gate Park — Peacock Meadow
Pastime will feature nine dancers and is broken up into nine “innings” that represent different aspects of the game – from sliding into home or making a thrilling catch, to pitcher duals, brawls and beanings, audiences will get to enjoy the thrill of athletic movement, but filtered through the dynamics of dance and performance. The performance will be accompanied by a live, original score by composer/sound designer EriK Pearson.
