Gentle New Years Eve Circle Dance Party (El Cerrito)
| Wednesday, December 31, 2008 | ||
| 8:00 pm |
Bay Area Circle Dancers have danced in the East Bay weekly for 23 years. On New Years Eve, they gather with other friends (dancers and non-dancers, no partners necessary as they dance in a communal circle) for a gentle evening in the Hillside Church. They perform simple folk dances from Greece, Scotland, Israel, etc. Bring hors d’oeuvres for the pot luck. There’s a comfortable lounge a big stone fireplace, and lots of nice people.
We start gathering at 8 pm. During the evening, we’ll be doing the old Russian ritual of melting and casting lead (to foretell the future), and tossing symbols of unwanted things or traits into the fire. The dancing is simple folk dancing from Greece, Israel, Scotland, and many other places, done in a circle, with a certain attitude of respect.
