The Stanford Powwow is a three-day festival held every Mother’s Day Weekend in the Eucalyptus Grove on Stanford campus. A Pow Wow is an American Indian celebration of dancing and drumming that normally starts at noon until sunset. People wear traditional tribal regalia and there are dance contests in many different categories. The drummers compete to sing the longest or drum the best.
Vendors come and sell their American Indian handicrafts which includes handmade beadwork, leather goods, jewelry from the Southwest, pottery and carpets. Vendors will also sell Navajo tacos and other foods from the Southwest. The event is free.
Spectators may come and watch all dances. Dances begin with the first Grand Entry (or first Gourd Dancing session) until the last dance of the day. Generally, dances will run from 7pm-11pm on Friday, 11am-11pm on Saturday, and 11am-6pm on Sunday.
