80s New Romantics showcase a few new songs and tons of classic hits.
With 30 songs in the U.K. Top 40 and over 85 million records sold, Duran Duran were the torch bearers of the New Wave and New Romantic movements and have been the most enduring band of the MTV-driven “Second British Invasion” in the 1980s. After nearly 20 years apart, the band fully reunited in 2003 (Guitarist Andy has since left the band again) and although their latest album, 2007s urban-groove-leaning Red Carpet Massacre, is more of a mixed bag than albums at their peak, it still provides several standout tracks and all of those classic hooks, funky bass lines, alluring synth runs and typical Simon Le Bon howls and wails that Duranies have come to expect.
“…if a trip to the discotheque is all you need, this should deliver in spades.” - Live Daily
About the Duran Duran Tour: In addition to playing four or five of the better tracks from their latest album like “The Valley” (with groovy dance floor beats) and the should-be-a-classic ballad “Falling Down,” recent setlists for this tour have included a healthy dose of classic hits like Girls on Film, Wild Boys, Rio, Reflex, Save a Prayer and Planet Earth, plus some album favorites like Hold Back the Rain. Opening: Your Vegas
About Lawn 4-Packs: Live Nation is offering specially-priced lawn 4-packs for select concerts at both the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord and the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Upcoming shows with special 4-packs include Rush, Iron Maiden, Chicago & The Doobie Brothers, Brad Paisley with Jewel, the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, John Mayer, Mötley Crüe Fest with Papa Roach, Linkin Park with The Bravery & Chris Cornell, and more.

Acclaimed comedy troupe SPF7s new sketch comedy show.
Friday, Saturday, April 25th & 26th, 8pm - $10 adv / door
There are a lot of things in this world that make living difficult: bullying, fear of tomorrow, opening a Capri Sun, and intense self loathing. Most people are afraid to face the bad stuff: In their new sketch comedy show entitled, ‘John Williams is a Dick’, SPF7 not only faces it, but they tie it to a chair, duct tape its mouth shut and make it watch Kevin Costner’s The Postman on a constant loop. “Williams” is a nearly 90 minute show about San Francisco values, dildos, Capri Sun, the miracle of birth, white tigers, and an Oscar winning composer who is apparently the root of all evil.
About SPF7: Bay Area comedy group SPF7 has performed all over country, including the Chicago Improv Festival, DC Comedyfest, and the Toronto International Improv Festival. At home, they’ve been seen at SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Improv Festival, the San Jose Improv, the SF Theatre Festival, and the historic Purple Onion.

Buzzy U.K. export mixes his ironic take on disco with ’80s grooves
Thursday, April 24th, 10p - $12 door for 21+ ($13 for 18+)
A myspace sensation, 24 year-old Scottsman DJ/Producer Calvin Harris recalls LCD Soundsystem in his songs’ explosive, sloganeering choruses and trance-inducing beats. He’s completely derivative, but who cares? He’s created great dance music. Songs like “Acceptable in the ’80s” and “The Girls” are whopping floor-fillers with layers of catchy synth riffs, booty shaking bass lines and wink wink clever lyrics. Harris’ self-produced debut album, 2007s “I Created Disco” has made dance music safe for the rock set once again and is certain to drag the shoegazing wallflowers onto the dancefloor. A popscene dance party until 2am follows the show.
“Harris has distilled all of the synth-popping, amp-busting sounds of electroclash and disco-punk into a complete set of proper pop uppers.” - NME

Burmese-American performance Artist Ledoh in Color Me America and Jo Kreiter/Flyaway Productions performing Lies You Can Dance To
Thursday-Saturday, April 24-26th 8pm - $20 adv / $25 door ($18 students)
In this charged year of political discussion, expressed preferences and implied ambivalences, dancers and choreographers wade into the topical and sometimes seething waters of politics as ODC Theater presents For the Record; Dancers Debate the Body Politic–a festival spread out over three weekends that scrutinizes the politics of government and history, the environment, and of course, the body.
First up on the weekend of April 24th through April 26th, Burmese-American performance artist Ledoh’s Color Me America examines his personal story of fleeing the Burmese military dictatorship for the US, and then having his deeply felt archetype of American freedom put to the test upon experiencing the real thing. Then, choreographer and aerialist Jo Kreiter’s Lies You Can Dance To happily throws Bush and company into the murky, shark infested waters of historical context that he shares with other American leaders and institutions who misused and abused in order to further their own aims. Tickets include free post-show receptions with an informal Artists’ talk.

Four-octave voice coffee-house troubadour
Wednesday, April 30th, 8:00pm - $12 adv / door
Holcombe Waller’s music is melancholic, beautiful, and as all encompassing as a womb filled with warm guitars, rumbling electric keyboards, and your occasional banjo. He’s got the crazy-beautiful, four-octave voice of an androgynous seraph, but he’s really a coffee-house troubadour and a classically trained pianist, a jazz saxophonist, and a visual artist. Also: Loch Lomand and Garrett Pierce
