A rare free show by SF’s very own Dr. Mojo Band.Dr. Mojo brings together diverse talents, with long performing experience: Paul Gutierrez on guitar grew up musically in LA where he fronted for several award-winning bands, and Gerry Della Bona on Hammond B3 organ has been a fixture in the San Francisco scene for over thirty years, with tours supporting Steppenwolf, working with Huey Lewis, and many recordings to his credit. Ably supported by Rick McFarland on bass and Dominic Haigh on drums, this impressive line-up is fronted by the bewitching Kathleen Leake on vocals.
Dr. Mojo draws on many influences: blues masters from Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker and Howlin’ Wolf to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Lou Ann Barton, the gorgeous Memphis soul sounds of Sam and Dave, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and Joe Tex, and ground-breaking British blues artists such as John Mayall and Dr. Feelgood.
Steve Savage, the multi-Grammy-nominated blues recording engineer/producer (Robert Cray, Tommy Castro), and co-founder and President of SF’s Blue Bear Music School, comments: “I’ve seen Dr. Mojo many times and am a big fan! They are fine musicians who deliver high energy, crowd-pleasing performances.”
