Recession Proof Party: Minipop, The Botticellis, Birds & Batteries @ Independent (Alamo Sq.)

Yes, it’s sad that Rogue Wave canceled their show just a few days ago, but The Independent saved the day by throwing the doors open for free and quickly putting together one of our favorite concert nights of the year so far. The “Recession Proof Party” features a Friday evening full of three indie pop bands we love: Headliner:  Minipop (lush & dreamy indie). Supporting Acts: The Botticellis (equal parts The Posies and Beach Boys), Birds & Batteries (indie prog rock). Also live screen printing with San Franpsycho, so bring a shirt to decorate.

With lush keyboard soundscapes and driving guitars, the four-piece Minipop easily straddles the line between the sweetest of pop and the indie cred they truly deserve.

With equal parts The Posies and The Beach Boys, The Botticellis have crafted an emotive pop built on harmonies and longing, patient vocals perfect for staring out the window on an endlessly foggy outer Richmond Sunday.

Spreading lush electronic arrangements and rhodes electric piano under the ever-lonesome beacon of the country (pedal steel), Birds & Batteries discover the urban pastoral in a simple song. Comparable to Neil Young and M83, or Randy Newman meets Gary Newman.
