A monumental structure in Rio de Janeiro is a metaphor for the promise and shortcomings of utopian modernism. One half of the building hosts an important hospital, while the other half crumbles as a derelict ruin. Through a series of split screens, Hu Enigma juxtaposes the bustling labor and lifeless neglect that coexist within the symmetrical halves of this perplexing building. Complementing the striking visual narrative, the film follows stories of patients and doctors who inhabit the building.
