Event Details

Small Business Holiday Gift Fair | 2013

Forget Black Friday and support Bay Area small businesses with your holiday shopping during the three-day “Gift Alley” which supports local non-profits during an artisinal holiday shopping extravaganza in Crocker Galleria.

Each event features a curated mix of 20-30 local vendors, lots of holiday cheer and a happy hour from 5 to 7 pm.

Featuring over 25 local entrepreneurs, you’ll be able to find tons of tasty locally-made gifts for everyone on your shopping list – all from businesses that are part of non-profit La Cocina’s incubator program.

There’s also live music, gift wrapping and holiday drinks (which we’re told are by donation, so be generous as it benefits local nonprofits).

December 2013 vendors include:

Aedan Foods
Whether you’ve grown tired of eggnog or just decided you want to open a sake lounge, owner Mariko Grady is here to show you how with DIY sake kits. Pair the sake with some handmade shio-koji and miso and try the fermentation process making everyone exclaim “Umami, dearest.”

Chiefo’s Kitchen
Now in her 3rd year at La Cocina, Nigerian owner Chiefo Chukwudebe will be selling two new products she debuted earlier this year – Kuli Kuli (Salted Nigerian Peanut Brittle) and Plantain Rum Bread Pudding, a fan favorite.

Maria Schoettler
Catch Maria Schoettler’s crowd favorite: food you can frame. This food illustrator’s hand-painted foodie postcards and calendars are the perfect accompaniment to tasty treats.

Rasoi
Catch the debut of one of La Cocina’s newest women-owned businesses. Specializing in Indian cuisine from the Gujarati region of India, owner and chef Heena Patel will be serving Pav-Vada (deep fried crunchy potato patties served in soft bread with chutneys) and Indian Vegetable Puffs.

Sabores del Sur
Keep an eye out for chef and owner Guisell Osorio’s new restaurant, set to open in early 2014. Catch her at this year’s gift event selling her ever-popular alfajores (cookies with dulce de leche centers) for the cookie monster in your life.

Sal de Vida
Chef and Owner Adriana Lahl just published a cookbook last month, Celebraciones Mexicanas: History, Traditions, and Recipes. Copita chef and James Beard award-winning cookbook author Joanne Weir has hailed her book as “a must for anyone who loves food, culture, history, cooking and Mexico.” Her cocktail rim salts and packaged soup mixes are an added plus.

And many more….
