2017 Makers’ Month: Figure Painting Workshop | SFSU

Join them on Thursday, June 8th from for a Figure Painting Workshop led by Anh Bui as part of the ASI Art Gallery’s Makers’ Month.

From 3 to 5 pm, Anh will be going over the basic processes of figure painting: creating the underdrawing, mixing colors with a limited palette, and laying in the foundation for a successful painting.

Limited supplies will be provided. Please bring your own supplies – namely paint brushes, medium, and easel – if you have them.

Not available in those hours? He will be in from 11 to 5, so drop by anytime just to hang out!

About the artist:

Anh Bui is an interdisciplinary artist who works primarily in painting, sculpting, and installation. He was born in the city of Hanoi, Vietnam, but moved to San Francisco, USA, at the age of 10. Anh uses art as a way to explore his personal experiences living between two cultures, and place these experiences within his local sociopolitical and cultural context. The resulting body of work explores ideas of trans-cultural identity, power balance, and cultural conflicts to subverts conventional narratives produced by Vietnamese and Western infrastructures.

Anh has exhibited at Intersection for the Arts. Incline Gallery, SFSU Fine Arts Gallery, and 111 Minna Gallery as part of the de Young Museum’s College Night program.
