$5 Classic Movie Night | Paramount Theatre

Experience the great films of Hollywood’s Golden Era in one of America’s finest Art Deco movie palaces.

With over 3,000 seats and a meticulously-restored interior, the Paramount offers a true “Movie Palace” experience straight out of the 1930s – with period newsreels, cartoons, previews, live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer organ and the audience participation spinning wheel game of “Dec-O-Win.”

When elderly Miss Daisy Werthan (Jessica Tandy) crashes her brand new 1948 Packard into her neighbor’s garden and loses her insurance, her son Boolie (Dan Ackroyd) decides she must have a chauffeur whether she likes it or not – and Miss Daisy decidedly does not like it. Miss Daisy’s new driver, Hoke Colburn (Morgan Freeman), has his work cut out for him as he gradually convinces his crusty employer to let him do his job. Hoke is a model of dignity and wisdom as he patiently and firmly deals with Miss Daisy’s contrariness, idiosyncrasies, and her well-meaning, if naive, preconceptions of African Americans. Over the next three decades, Miss Daisy and Hoke grow older and wiser together as they progress through the turbulent waning years of segregation in the Deep South towards their final destination of mutual respect and acceptance. Directed by Bruce Beresford with a script adapted by Alfred Uhry from his own Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay and both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture. Morgan Freeman won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and Jessica Tandy took home both the Golden Globe Award and the Oscar for Best Actress.
