ON HIATUS: $5 First Friday at Chabot Space & Science Center | Oakland Hills

Enjoy $5 admission to the Chabot Space & Science Center in the Oakland Hills every First Friday of the month from 6-10 pm.

$5 admission includes unlimited access to everything from laser and planetarium shows to Night Hikes and Star Stories. Regular admission is $18 for adults, so this is a super deal.

Every First Friday event will include a variety of fun evening activities for the whole family. Enjoy music, a bar, science demos, talks, telescopes, space missions and more.

Some activities have limited capacity and are first come, first served, so get there to sign up early. There is no pre-registration for First Fridays; just show up and join in on the fun.

This month’s $5 First Friday will be an out-of-this-world experience as they beam up the excitement for the opening of 50 Artists. 50 Years, a new traveling art exhibit created to commemorate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary.

Fun hands-on activities include a crash course in Klingon, transporter demonstrations, drinks, music, dancing and much more. Come dressed in your favorite Star Trek inspired attire.

Schedule:

  • 6:30 pm: The Science of Star Trek @ Megadome Theater
    A virtual real-time presentation by David Batchelor, Aerospace Technologist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. David will explore the scientific aspects of Star Trek and explain what technologies could be plausible today.
  • 7:30 pm & 8:15 pm: Star Trek -Inspired Zeiss Astronomy Presentation @ Planetarium
    Peer into the vast cosmos and explore constellations, as Chabot’s expert astronomers lead you through the galaxy using the state of the art, fiber-optic Zeiss Star Projector.
  • 6 pm & 9:30 pm: Star Trek Online: Agents of Yesterday Game Demos @ Biology Lab

  • 6:15 pm: Chabot’s Brand New Cosmo’s 360 Planetarium Show: Surfing the Planet Zone @ Planetarium
    Surf the Planet Zone with alien space explorers Zzyzzyx, Crimblat, and Fiz, as they take you on an expedition of discovery through the solar system. From the icy dark regions beyond Neptune to the remarkable moons of Jupiter to the very core of the planet Earth, your adventure awaits.
  • 6 pm-10 pm: Star Trek DJ Dance Party @ Mezzanine
    Join the DJ for one giant dance party for mankind.
  • 7:15 pm & 8:15 pm: Star Trek Storytime @ Touch the Sun
    Gather around the Master Storyteller and hear tales about the night’s sky and science fiction. Fun for the whole family.
  • 9:15 pm: Space in Your Face (17 and over) @ Megadome Theater
    Space in your Face combines small acts of music, comedy, skits, and quizzes with engaging and enthusiastic science lectures all converging on a space related topic. Space in Your Face is chocked full of adult humor and innuendos, and they kindly ask that audience members be over 17 years of age.
  • 7:30 pm-10:30 pm: Telescope Viewing @ Observatory Deck
    The impressive 20″ telescope, named Rachel, is the largest refractor in the western United States regularly open to the public. Its companion, the 8″ Alvan Clark refractor, named Leah, is the original 1883 instrument donated by founder Anthony Chabot. Nellie, Chabot‘s youngest and most powerful telescope, is housed in a rolling roof observatory, allowing access to 180 degrees of sky. This modern, research-quality telescope offers breathtaking views of the cosmos.
  • 9:15 pm: Planetarium Show: Phantom of the Universe @ Planetarium
    From the journey of protons racing through the world’s largest particle collider in Europe to up-close views of the Big Bang and emergent universe, and the nearly mile-deep descent to an underground experiment in South Dakota, a new planetarium show is designed to immerse audiences in the manifold search for dark matter.
  • 6 pm-9:30 pm: Bar
