The program makes a statement in alignment with current protests to galvanize the nation against actions from an administration seemingly bent on destroying as much of the social progress made in this country in the past half-century.

> Get Tickets – $15

A special evening of classic mid-century social justice programming that bridges the gap between yesterday and today by honoring those who have spoken out during similar times of crisis in America’s past. $15 for one, two or three features.

6:00 PM
THE DEFENDERS “The Benefactor”
(First aired April 28,1962) An astonishing look at a pre-Roe v. Wade world, where a principled doctor tries to use his trial on charges of performing illegal abortions as a platform to change the law. The first great social justice episode of a classic socially conscious TV series, the likes of which have not been seen again! Guest speaker: Gretchen Sisson from University of California, San Francisco’s (UCSF) Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH); to address reproductive rights and their depiction in film and television.

7:30 PM
OPEN SECRET (1948)
Directed by John Reinhardt. John Ireland stars as a man who discovers the hate crime underside of America. A riveting “B” picture that calls out ethnic prejudice—rescued from nearly 60 years in obscurity.

9:15 PM
CROSSFIRE (1947)
Directed by Edward Dmytyrk, 70th anniversary. One of the greatest of all “social justice noirs,” featuring noir icons Robert Ryan, Robert Mitchum and Gloria Grahame as they reside in a spooky, nocturnal world much different from the usual depiction of the “Land of the Free.” Dmytryk and producer Adrian Scott received prison sentences almost contemporaneously with their Oscar nominations.
