This event is curated by the Bay Area Science Festival as part of their year-round calendar of science events.

The festival takes place each fall with 10 days of science and technology lectures, games, exhibits, workshops and hands-on activities all over the Bay Area.

Bay Area Science Events

Alcatraz Cruises, the official concessionaire providing ferry service to the island, Invites you to find your park during their 6th annual Earth Day by the Bay. The 2017 Earth Day by the Bay is a day of free, family-friendly activities. Alcatraz Cruises is partnering with local non-profit environmental companies to organize the exciting Earth Day activities and education stations, which are appropriate for all ages.

Activities will include:

  • Insect Discovery Lab – See, hold, and touch insects including Darkling Beetles, Eastern Lubber Grasshoppers, Giant African Millipedes, and more!
  • Arts & Crafts – Express your creativity by creating your own sea life out of recycled & reused materials to paste onto our eco-artwall.
  • Alcatraz Gardens – See what types of plants grow on Alcatraz! Find out more about survivor plants and what the Parks Conservancy is doing to keep the plants and flowers thriving on Alcatraz Island.
  • Other Activities – Are you looking for more fun? There will be music, face painting, prizes and much more.
