Event Details

Open Engagement is an international conference and platform to support socially engageed art. Southern Exposure is a local partner of this year’s conference which takes place in Oakland from April 28 – May 1, 2016.

Seven past recipients of Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure grant present projects at various locations throughout San Francisco. Participating Artists: Other Cinema, Living Room Light Exchange, Black & White Projects + A Simple Collective, Place Talks, Stairwell’s, Art for a Democratic Society.

Alternative Exposure supports the independent, self-organized work of artists and small groups that play a critical and significant role within the San Francisco Bay Area arts community. Alternative Exposure provides monetary awards—giving grants of up to $5,000—to foster the development and presentation of artist-led projects and programs that are direct, accessible, and open to the public. The program was launched by Southern Exposure in 2007 in partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
