Join the 23rd Annual Penny Parade & Autumnal Extravaganza by throwing your money away in this beloved autumnal ritual of abundance.
Dress in copper, autumnal, monetary or splendid attire, bring your penny jar and “spare change” for the passers-by. You’ll give people a penny for their thoughts, dance down Haight Street singing “Pennies From Heaven” while tossing away copious copper coinage, bringing good luck to all who will find the lucky pennies left behind.
2014 Penny Parade & Autumnal Equinox Extravaganza
Sunday, September 21, 2014 | 2:30 pm sharp
Corner of Haight & Ashbury (outside Ben & Jerry’s), San Francisco
FREEThis (mostly) annual Cacophony Society event is now a young adult, as they celebrate 23 years of throwing money away in this beloved autumnal ritual of abundance.
Be a copper clad, tap dancing Busby Berkeley Goldigger, or anything else you want to be. But keep enough pennies to ride the carousel in Golden Gate Park afterwards. And (now that they are over official drinking age) keep enough pennies for cocktails for the optional de-briefing at the very end.
This event will happen rain or shine; if it rains, remember, those raindrops are just “Pennies From Heaven…be sure that your umbrella is upside down…”
