Joaquin Miller Park | Joaquin Miller Road and Sanborn Drive, Oakland, CA
Join the California Revels in a day of good music, dancing, and the largest celebration ever of the Abbots Bromley antler dance, The Abbots Bromliad.
Every September on Wakes Monday, the dancers in Abbots Bromley, England take up the traditional horns for a legendary trek of dancing through the town and countryside. Wakes Monday generally falls on or near Labor Day in America, and so that’s when The California Revels celebrate the tradition with a day of picnicking, dancing, and music which will culminate in the annual Bromliad antler dance.
2015 Abbots Bromliad Antler Dance
Monday, September 7, 2015 | Noon to 3 pm
Joaquin Miller Park located at 3594 Sanborn Drive, Oakland
The Bromliad takes place in the sun drenched meadow in beautiful Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland.
Their past Bromliad brought out 144 dancers and 12 musicians and they want to beat that record. Absolutely no experience is necessary. Bring a picnic, a blanket and a costume or prop for the line dance….antlers, (a couple of small tree branches do excellently here,) a parasol, a fool’s cap, a hobby horse head on a stick or a toy bow (minus the arrow please.) Musicians bring your fiddle or penny whistle or guitar or flute.
Note on the location: Sanborn Drive is a half loop that meets Joaquin Miller Road twice. Use the southern entrance at the Westminster Theater sign. The Bromliad takes place down a path right at the Sanborn Drive entrance. There is always plenty of street parking on Joaquin Miller Road.
