You can spend an evening in their beautiful building enjoying the galleries, fun talks, lively gatherings and intimate hangs with artists.

1945: A Year of Infamy, composed by Dr. Anthony Brown for the Grammy-nominated Asian American Orchestra, commemorates the 70th anniversary of the atomic devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki while also drawing attention to the current Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis. Informed by Gagaku—ancient court music dating back to 8th century Japan— 1945: A Year of Infamy blends the oldest continuous tradition of orchestral music on the planet with the improvisation and sonorities of a jazz orchestra, as well as six-member Gospel ensemble Voices Of A Dream (VOAD) and the words of poet / performance artist Genny Lim.

Part conversation, part concert, this event will provide insight into the making of 1945: A Year of Infamy and its sources of inspiration, including interviews with, and literature by, Hibakusha—the survivors of the atomic bombings—as well as featuring former SF Poet Laureate Janice Mirikitani and filmmaker Kathy Sloane. The program will look toward a future where nuclear armament has been abolished from the face of the earth.
