Awesöme Orchestra | Epic Free Classical Concerts
Awesöme Orchestra brings people together for musical adventures. Their free sessions are part performance, part open rehearsal. They provide the sheet music, and anyone is welcome to play or to listen.
The Awesöme Orchestra Collective is the Bay Area’s most adventurous reading orchestra, dedicated to playing excellent orchestral music of all kinds with amazing musicians in a fun, casual environment focused on high musicianship. Their events are always free, but they ask for a pay-what-you-will donation to help cover basic costs.
Awesome Orchestra is making another trip to San Jose for their December Session 27: The Fantasy Island of Misfit Toys at The Commons Music Showcase happening at Method 42 Productions.
Bring $5 or a small, unwrapped toy for charity.
The Commons have gathered likes of famed SF group Pickpocket Ensemble, aerial-violinist Shaina Evoniuk (of Jazz Mafia, and the Magik*Magik Orchestra), Dirty Cello, AlphaDog (Kristina Dutton and Teddy Rankin-Parker) as well as a full roster of local talents including The Good Hustle, Anya Kvitka, and Love District. A team of tango dancers, led by choreographer Erin Malley, will create a sultry dance scene as a tango ensemble, led by concert violinist Ishtar Hernandez, performs the works of Piazzolla.
Awesome Orchestra Repertoire:
- The Lonely Island & Shawn Patterson – “Everything is Awesome” from The Lego Movie (arr. for AOC by Jason Eckl, feat. Dirty Cello)
- Nubuo Uematsu – Final Fantasy Suite (arr. for full orchestra by Arturo Rodriguez, feat. prelude and opening themes, among others)
- Danny Elfman – The Nightmare Before Christmas (instrumental suite arr. for full orchestra by Mark McKenzie)
