CANCELED: “Bad Asians” Candid Storytelling Night | SF

> EVENT UPDATE: This event is no longer taking place.

Bad Asians will be featuring local raconteurs, performers, and comedians who will be telling a story based on a theme of the month. Featured will be Asians/Asian Americans with differing backgrounds and upbringings, but somehow share some very specific commonalities due to their cultural lineage.

The series will take place on the first Sunday of the month, in the basement of Lost Weekend Video in San Francisco.

After each performance, the storyteller will be interview by the host about their experience of being Asian in America and what makes them a “Bad Asian”. The show will be a frank, candid, and comedic expression and evaluation of the Asian identity.

Free when you mention Funcheap at the door. Otherwise, $5 early-bird and $10 day-of tickets are required.

Bad Asian is colloquial term used by myself and those of my ilk to playfully and/or condescendingly describe instances where an Asian person fails to live up to preconceived notions of what it means to be Asian. Not being a doctor/lawyer/engineer – bad Asian. Not grabbing a stack of napkins for your glove compartment – bad Asian. Eating vegan tofurkey, but being squeamish at the idea of eating balut – very bad Asian.

Everyone has a dream. Some some believe dreams are the manifestation of your subconscious desires. Other believe it is your brain defragmenting the unprocessed information from your day-to-day. Dreams can stir the soul to the pursuit of greatness. Dreams can cause crippling fears and crushing anxiety. Dreams can be so silly that it serves as a prelude to therapy. Join us this month as Bad Asians explore the intersection of fantasy and reality when our guests share their dreams.

Special Guest this month will be the music duo Q&A.

Free samosas for the first 20 attendees.

Bad Asians is hosted by comedian David Nguyen (Punchline) and raconteur Imran G (the Moth)
