Every October, for the past 13 years, Doc’s Clock has hosted “Barbie Mutilation Night” a raucous fundraiser where people use their muse, paint and glue guns to transform Barbie into their beautiful, scary or disturbing visions.

Last year, we got some blowback on social media (from people unaware that Doc’s is female owned and operated) accusing the event of promoting violence against women. So out of respect to anyone triggered by the event’s title, we’ve rebranded.

This year they are proud to present “Unrealistic Beauty Standards and Restrictive Gender Norms Mutilation Night”  and gonna call it “Smash the Patriarchy Night.”

The art supplies and Barbies will be provided. This year’s proceeds will benefit the awesome “About Face.”

About Face empowers and give tools to girls (including girl-identifying) that help them fight back against a culture that diminishes and disempowers them. They are based in SF, but offer resources to girls and educators nationally. I encourage all educators, mentors and parents to check them out.
