2012 Berkeley Old Time Music Convention
The Berkeley Old Time Music Convention is a five day music festival featuring performances by local and national acts, several rollicking square dances, the illustrious stringband contest, workshops, and plenty of jamming, in venues throughout Berkeley from Wed.-Sun., September 12-16, 2012
The Convention is organized by folks who love old time music and who want to create their own musical fun.
Twenty string bands will compete for sacks of tokens redeemable for fresh produce as part of the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention on September 15, 2012.
There will also open jamming around Civic Center Park hosted by the Black Crown String Band. The Contest is the centerpiece of the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention. Most of the bands will be fiddle-banjo combos, but there are always some that push the old-time envelope: jug band, Greek band (complete with undulating belly dancer), ragtime mandolins, Irish stepdancers, Italian tarantellas –- anything goes as long as it’s unplugged.
