> EVENT UPDATE: This event is no longer taking place.

The Bicycle Art Salon is a discussion group on the subject(s) of art, film, music, bicycles and more, at the home and studio of Slimm Buick every third Friday, except for July and November.

Free, but an RSVP is required by contacting the organizers via email to bicycleartsalon@gmail.com or phone at 510-230-8270.

Attendees typically include the great minds of San Francisco, Oakland and the world, and have included Award-winning director Harrod Blank, BART Director Robert Raburn, and Nan Eastep of Bspoke Tailor.

The salon is free, with occasional donations for worthy cycling causes, and also includes Slimm’s famous, fresh hot salsa (straight outta the Mission). You are encouraged to bring something yummy to share as well. There is usually plenty of (free) street parking, and for those who ride bicycles they will have a secure spot inside.

Discover the original American form of bicycling racing. Re-live the excitement of movie stars, gangsters, and the best-paid athletes in the US on a journey that takes you from the glory years of American cycling through to the last throes of a once-great sport.

This film traces the history of this completely forgotten sport from its early days in the 1880s through its sad demise in the 1950s. Over 40 hours of interviews with riders, supporters, family members and historians bring to life to the rich tapestry which was the Six-Day Bicycle Race. Narrated by award winning author and television sports journalist Frank Deford, this film brings to life the color and excitement of an era when a bike rider could make in six days what his father might earn in six years. More than 10 years in the making, the Six-Day Bicycle Race is a film that brings together the largest known collection of photographs, archival footage and personal recollections by and of people long since passed away.
