Event Details

Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve was once home to California’s most important coal fields. Today, they’ll be mining (figuratively) wildflowers in this Bay Area botanical hotspot.

They’ll also see the historic Rose Hill Cemetery and the underground Greathouse Visitor Center. The natural landscape immediately to the east of this beautiful park is at high risk of development.

The Leaders are Karen Synowiec and Ken Lavin, with a total distance moderate hike of about 3 miles with several hundred feet in elevation change.

  • Weather Policy: Rain cancels.
  • Where to Meet: They’ll assemble in the upper parking lot at the end of  Somersville Road.
    There is a restroom and water fountain at the trailhead.
  • Leader Notes: Bring water, snacks, dress in layers, and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them.
