Come join Dr. Khalid White for a film screening of Black Fatherhood, followed by a panel of fathers and an open discussion. Stories will be shared of brave men who have stepped up and created a better world for their sons and daughters, as they provide new models of fatherhood while navigating socio-economic class, gender and race.

Black Fatherhood: Trials & Tribulations, Testimony & Triumph is a compendium providing insight on the nuances of being a Black father in America. The book illustrates stories of accountable, Black fathers facing contemporary parenting scenarios. Despite challenging circumstances, these fathers disclose their struggles, and progress, in parenthood. The men featured provide new models of fatherhood; navigating socio-economic class, gender, and race.
Dr. Khalid Akil White is an Ethnic Studies Professor and the Umoja Academic Success Program Coordinator at San Jose City College. He is a lecturer in African American Studies, at San Jose State University, as well as an entrepreneur, author, filmmaker, and mentor. Khalid’s research is focused on effective student success strategies for African American male student in the K-12 and California Community College system.
