The Fantastic Solution to Global Warming and other Conundrums is an exhibition of new artwork by San Francisco based artist and athlete Pete Ippel. In this collection of drawings, photographic prints, and videos he explores themes ranging from nuclear waste processing to the pairing of art and sport. This Friday you’ll have the chance to test the waters in ‘Joke-e-oke the Gameshow’. Watch as contestants compete in 3 exciting rounds to determine who can best perform material from their favorite comedians. Only a handful of slots are open for the gameshow, so get there early and sign up. After a champ is anointed, they’ll open up Joke-e-oke to the masses until they kick us out.

And if We Shadows – scenes from a circus life” is an urban circus arts performance with over a dozen aerialists, acrobats, contortionists and circus specialists (aged between 14-34) along with a live score by beatboxer Carlos Aguirre. The show, which can best be described Rent, but with a teenage circus angle, or as a homegrown handcrafted hip-hop version of Cirque du Soliel, also features legendary breakdancers Iron Monkey & Finesse.

Enchanted Village Faire - Saturday, May 17, 11am-4pm, Napa - A day of games, crafts, a crystal lavender room, the knight’s quest, a sleeping giant, vendors, food, and more. Bring your tortillas (stale preferred), your costumed, your naked and your beer and participate in one of the largest races in America, and also one of the most strange and “San Francentric.” The Third Sunday in May sees this crown jewel of SF events with over 70,000 race/walk/stroll 7.46 miles from Bay (Howard/Beale) to Breakers (the western end of Golden Gate Park) in a costumed mass of people. Be prepared to see 1,000 ridiculous costumes, lots of naked people and the tired “salmon” swimming against the tide of racers. Although you’re supposed to register and pay $48-$59 to race, but many people just show up and race anyway. We won’t tell anyone.

The organizers of the Million Pirate March have a simple goal: to gather one million of their swashbuckling brethren and, as a symbol of solidarity, march together during this year’s Bay to Breakers (presumably while drinking many bottles of rum). For land-lubbers, their website includes a number of helpful fashion tips, the official MPM logo (easily printable as a flag, of course), and instructions for converting an ordinary shopping cart into a marauding pirate ship. The annual Bay-to-Breakers race ends with the traditional music and free goodies festival known as “footstock” in the polo fields in Golden Gate Park. This event is free and open to the public, though some of the freebies may only be available to official racers.
