>> Want to see our Top Picks for this week instead?
The early 19th century marks a “Big Bang” period in the development of American Christmas traditions. As we hike to the Point Bonita lighthouse in the Marin Headlands, a marvel of Victorian technology, we’ll learn more about period life and how our Christmas customs originated.
A special behind- the-scenes tour of Point Bonita Lighthouse is included.
25 person maximum. No dogs. Bring warm layers and a snack.
Reservations required, phone (415) 331-1540.
About Point Bonita: Point Bonita [directions] is located at the extreme southwestern tip of the Marin Headlands. The steep, half-mile walk to Point Bonita Lighthouse takes you along a narrow ridge, through a hand-chiseled tunnel, and over a heart-stopping suspension footbridge to what seems like the end of the world. California’s coastline stretches north and south, the Pacific rolls away to the west, and San Francisco glitters inland.
