2019 Architecture & the City Festival | SF
The 16th annual month-long celebration features behind the scenes and walking tours, films, exhibitions, lectures and more that address varying aspects of the design and planning process.
This years festival theme, “We the City”, aims to explore how cultural diversity and connectivity inspire and inform the built environment. From the Dogpatch to the Outer Sunset — San Francisco is a unique, diverse, and multi-generational mosaic.
In this architectural-poetical collaboration between DBA Lab (the research and exploration studio at David Baker Architects) and curators Jacob Palmer and Arianne Gelardin, StoreFrontLab will become a conduit for self-reflection and exploration. Come participate in an immersive exhibition encompassing moments of insight, voyeurism, and play.
Opening night celebration featuring the cosmic stylings of DJ Spaziale.
Free, but an RSVP is requested.
This installation responds to and builds on the structural form of a large-scale site-specific piece called peepSHOW, originally created by DBA Lab for the Market Street Prototyping Festival. Designed to filter the senses and engage the public on a gritty street corner, peepSHOW is recontextualized here as the Chrome Cavern, a compounding of interior spaces that filter and refract a personal exploration of the luminous corners of the mind.
The interactive sculptural environment will host a series of readings, receptions, events, and discussions on diverse topics—from artificial intelligence to consciousness, dark matter to the infinite—facilitating experiences that parallel these ideas with the hope that participants will discover new connections and real-world applications.
