The Bay Area’s Free Book Store

Got a New Year’s Resolution to read more in 2012? Do you need a new book to read while cuddling up next to your space heater?
How about 100 new books?
Visit the Bay Area Free Book Exchange in El Cerrito (open every Saturday and Sunday 9am to 6pm including New Year’s Day) and take home up to 100 books for free. Think of it like a library, except you never have to return the books.
191,000 Free Books Given Away, And Counting…
Yes, all the books on all the shelves are available to the public free of charge. It is like an ever changing treasure hunt among thousands of books. Since 2009 they have given away nearly 200,000 free books and there’s no sign of stopping.
Sadly there is a limit to 100 books per person per day. But we’d love to meet the wheelbarrow-loading freeloader who forced them to institute a limit.
Donate Books, Take Home Books:
The store is called the Free Book “Exchange” – so donated books are appreciated and accepted, but donations are not required. The store was created and is run cooperatively by local book sellers/ book lovers who are just looking to give good books a good home.
