SF’s Crazy Christmas Lights

See what an extra $1,000 in PG&E Christmas spirit gets you at Tom & Jerry’s xmas house.

The “Tom and Jerry” Christmas House on 21st street in the Castro is a free spectacle for all who need some extra Christmas crack spirit in their lives. Or maybe a minor heart attack from bright light exposure.

The house remains decorated with an insane amount of Christmas lights until December 24th, with nightly visits from Santa Claus.

The immense decorations feature a 65 foot tree, decorated head to toe, complete with ornaments with holes throughout (in case it rains). The couple, Tom Taylor and Jerry Goldstein, have perfected their craft since they started dazzling their home in Christmas cheer since the late 80s. They have got it down to a science, reinforcing all their decor so even strong winds won’t knock it down.

Maybe it’s a little absurd, and over-the-top, but locals have been visiting the house from their childhood now to their twenties. Tom and Jerry’s magnificent display costs them about an extra $1,000 in electricity bills with PG&E, which is certainly an amazing gift to the entire San Francisco community, although probably not the most “green.”

> You can visit the Tom and Jerry Christmas House December 1st through 24th every night from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at 3650 21st Street. (Please note that the Weekly and the Examiner both say the address is 3560)
