Pick up exclusive free comic books the 1st Saturday in May at shops all over the Bay Area

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year (May 5 in 2012)- when participating comic book shops give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores.

The comics you can get vary from store to store, but highlights from 2012 include exclusive comic books from The Avengers, Star Wars, Spiderman, Peanuts, The Simpsons, Graphic Elvis and more. List of free 2012 comics.

Also, the Excelsior & West Portal Branches of the San Francisco Public Library will be giving away comic books for 2012 for ages 10-18.
