Watch the Bay’s best paper folders & a paper airplane challenge on Sunday

At the annual Origami-Palooza, watch origami experts fold paper into seemingly impossible shapes, and enter your creations into the Origami Challenge contest.

Anyone and everyone, from young to old, to beginner to experienced, can learn to create amazing things with paper.

Activities Include:

  • Fold with a Master
    Join Jeremy Shafer, entertainer and author as he performs and teaches some of his most famous folds. Origami extraordinaire and an American physicist, Jeremy is one of the foremost origami artists and theorists in the world. He is known for his complex and elegant designs, most notably of insects and animals.
  • Paper Airplane Challenge
    3 pm, Peace Pagoda/Peace Plaza, Japantown
    Conducted by special guest, John collins – The Paper Airplane Guy, John is the current record holder for paper airplane distance. Fine tune your airplane skills with this YouTube superstar, as he shares his secrets for amazing airplanes. Bring your best flyer and compete to set your own record. Planes will be judged on distance and style. Check in by 2:30 pm at the Info/Registration Booth in the East Japan Center Mall.
  • Origami Palooza Activities & Challenges
    Join and learn from one of a dozen instructional sessions, for folders of all levels
  • Challenges
    Enter your best Origami creation to win amazing prizes. We will award prizes to individuals in three categories: Under 6 years old, 7-13 years old and 14-100+.
  • Origami-Masters Level Challenge
    If you’ve folded a unusual, intricate and/or Complex Model, enter it here. Open to all ages. You must provide the name of the model and it’s creator.
