Record Store Day 2016

Celebrate indie record stores for treats like free concerts, DJ sets, food, discounts & giveaways.

Major and independent label artists alike have special, vinyl-only limited edition releases available on the third Saturday in April, a.k.a. Record Store Day.

Amoeba, Aquarius, Rasputin, and dozens of record stores in the Bay Area will take part in the celebration. There will some local stores with special events with DJ sets and giveaways.

The artists releasing special vinyls run the gamut from AIR, Death Cab For Cutie, MadonnaAlt J, Justin Bieber, Johnny Cash, Brandi Carlile, Chvrches, John Coltrane, J Dilla, Bob Dylan, The Kinks, Willie Nelson, plus three special releases from David Bowie, along with many more.

2016 Bay Area Participants:

San Francisco

  • Amoeba Music San Francisco

    • Guest DJ Sets:
      • Leader of the Pack (11 am – 12 pm)
        DJs Bearzbub and ChakaQuan make up Leader of the Pack, a monthly party showcasing all things soul, funk and rock & roll! This year, they kick off the festivities with a high energy set that is sure to set Amoeba SF on FIRE.
      • The Incredible Hoax (12 pm – 1 pm)
        Satellite Amoebite DJ Incredible Hoax will be slicing off bygone space garbage, happy-hour power sleaze, and Jazz et cetera from beyond the twilight lagoon for your RSD pleasure. Do let the name fool you?
      • DJ Veryserious (1 pm – 2 pm)
        Don’t let the name fool you, DJVS is a one-man powerhouse of hits that takes us everywhere from the glitz of the ‘80s to the shoegaze sidesteps of the ‘90s. You WILL remember this ride!
      • Kevin Martin of Candlebox (2 pm – 3 pm)
        Candlebox vocalist Kevin Martin is locking down the mid-afternoon shift with a sampling of music from his personal collection.
      • Pete Yorn Signing (3 pm – 4 pm)
        Superstar Pete Yorn has a sold out show at the Independent on Record Store Day, but he’s making time for a signing of his new album ArrangingTime at Amoeba SF while playing a curated playlist of his favorite tunes.
      • DJ George Blenda [Kerry Yarbrough] (4 pm – 5 pm)
        George is rolling through to play some rare hip-hop and gems from the golden era of the genre.
      • DJ Guillermo [Jacob Pena] (5 pm – 6 pm)
        Our final DJ of the day is our very own Jacob aka DJ Guillermo. He’ll be serving up some hot steppers with a side of boogaloo and anything else he feels like sprinkling on his always red-hot sets.
  • Thrillhouse Records
    In addition to the all the vinyl goodness, they’re gonna have a free BBQ at 1 pm (veggie and meat, while supplies last) to be followed by some live music at 2 pm. So come out and avoid the lines and crowds and support the only all-volunteer, not-for-profit record store in Northern California.

      Jonah Nice is a charming and handsome selector, and has been playing records or music in bands around the Bay for the last decade plus. His musical selections come in a wide array from soul and salsa to rock ‘n roll to jazz and hip hop.
