Funcheap and Stroy Moyd of #HellaFunny are taking over the historic Great Star Theater (built in 1925) for a one-night-only “Best of SF” comedy showcase on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

We’ve handpicked five of the funniest up-and-coming comedians in San Francisco, all of whom have been honored as “Best of SF” by the SF Weekly, and we’re showcasing them for just one night. Expect a night of top local comics, comedy giveaways, and some surprises.

Andrew Holmgren

SF Weekly Top 10 Comics to Watch, SF Sketchfest
Laid-back jokester Andrew Holmgren performs with a certain reverence for irreverence and his succinct, clever sense of humor has caused people to call him a smart-ass more times than he cares to remember. Holmgren was named one of 2013’s “comics to watch” by SF Weekly and was named “Best Comedian” in 2014 by the same publication. Andrew produces the popular San Francisco comedy showcase ‘Get Yucked Up’, he performs all over the country, and has appeared at SF Sketchfest, Savage Henry Comedy Festival and The Sacramento Comedy Fest, where he was named best visiting comedian. I’d buy him a beer if I were you. He’s also got great hair.

Kaseem Bently

Best racial humor you don’t feel guilty laughing at – SF Weekly
Named SF Weekly Best of Award Winner for “Racial Humor You Don’t Feel Guilty Laughing At” and one of the Bay Area’s “Top 5 Comedians to Watch” by the San Jose Mercury News, Kaseem Bentley is an African American insult comic from San Francisco. Growing up with his ‘hardcore class clown’ father and mom that was like a tough Claire Huxtable, Kaseem developed his no-holds-barred comedic style that made friends and co-workers always laugh. Known as the “The funniest comic at the worst show” he works at the SF Punchline, Cobb’s, countless bars, and b rooms, and just recently performed at the San Francisco Comedy and Burrito Festival.

Natasha Muse

Best Tranny Comedian – SF Weekly
Lovable comedian, podcaster, and writer Natasha Muse brightens Bay Area comedy. Her endearingly awkward demeanor onstage is complemented by cerebral wit and whimsical wordplay, with an occasional silent pause as she waits for the audience to catch up. Her comedy, her personality, and her Twitter feed are sharpened with subtle sarcasm and a satirical edge, as is her monthly show, A Funny Night for Comedy, a parody of the classic late-night talk show format. Muse quietly represents all that San Franciscans are adamantly proud of — a transexual lesbian mother and freelance artist — and she dishes it all up for us with candid humility and hilarity.

David Gborie

Top Comic to Watch – SF Weekly
David Gborie comes to party. He’s been telling jokes all over the country for a couple of years now and he is, in his words, “Pretty legit at it.” He currently lives in San Francisco where he is a member of Sylvan Productions and can be seen around town lurking at one of their many shows or at Crissy Field with his trusty crab pot. As a perfomer, he’s appeared at The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, SF Indie Fest, and Denver’s Too Much Funstival, as well as the SF Punchline, The Denver Comedy Works, and other impressive venues. He despises the word swag.

Shanti Charan

Best Stand-up on the Way Up – SF Weekly
Shanti Charan’s bubbly personality and contagious smile lure in audiences and her comedic abilities keeps them laughing. She is a fast-rising fresh face in the Bay Area comedy scene. She won 1st place in the 2011 Rooster T Feather’s Comedy Competition and participated in the 2011 San Francisco International Comedy Competition where she advanced to the semi-finals. Charan was awarded SF Weekly’s 2012 Best Stand-Up on the Way Up. SF Weekly says Charan’s writing “is clever and confident beyond her years.”

Stroy Moyd (#HellaFunny)

SF Sketchfest, Cobb’s, Oddball Festival with Dave Chapelle
Stroy Moyd is founder of #HellaFunny and a rising comic star from Oakland. Dubbing himself as The Prince of Comedy, Stroy Moyd is a 3-time winner of the Fresh Faces Comedy Competition at the Hollywood Laugh Factory and has been seen at both the SF SketchFest and the LaughFest in Grand Rapids. Equipped with his Afro pick, Stroy performs with passion and has enough energy to wake any crowd up. Stroy’s next show is performing with the Wayans Brothers at the Wild 94.9 Comedy Jam at Shoreline Amphitheater on October 4th.
