SF Bids for the 2024 Olympics

A Olympics Beach Volleyball court in front of City Hall? Yup.. It could happen.

A $350 million “pop-up” stadium in a Brisbane field. Beach volleyball in front of San Francisco City Hall. Table tennis in Chinatown.” – that’s an intriguing first line from the SF Gate article about yet another bid for San Francisco to host the Olympics. This time the goal is 2024.

We’ve been down this road before with SF unsuccessfully bidding for 2008, 2012 and 2016.

There’s plenty of opposition to the bid (just check out the comments on SF Gate) with most people citing the financial bust that was the America’s Cup. And we’re still far away.

For SF to have any chance, they have to get the blessing of the US Olympic Committee which will be making a decision in 2015 to choose form SF, Los Angeles, Boston and Washington, D.C. (or picking no city at all). And then the chosen US city then battles it out with other cities around the world to get named by the IOC in 2017.
