Return of the Cypher (ROTC) is free live Hip-Hop show every Sunday at the Boom Boom Room that features an ever-changing lineup of artists and improvised sessions (know as “cyphers”) where beatboxers, emcees, and musicians collaborate in a spontaneous combustion of soulful skill.

Every week, The Gemstone Band drops live renditions of Hip-hop classics while the livest DJ in the bay, the immaculate Kevvy Kev, holds down the party on the wheels of steel with original mixes for your dancing pleasure.

Sunday, March 4th – MVP Competition
It’s SF’s monthly M.V.P. (Most Valuable Poet) Competition. MC’s will fight for the coveted R.O.T.C. dog tags.. M.V.P. is a true freestyle competition, as opposed to your conventional MC battle. We assess the emcee’s overall ability to “move the crowd”, as well as technique, presence, and mic control.
