Super Mario Block Party

A massive moving “bloco” costume party with giant speaker plant tubey things
By - posted 5/16/2015 No Comment

One of the funnest ideas for Bay to Breakers is Super Mario-themed moving block party.

It’s free, but if you donate just $5 then it helps the organizer buy all the supplies, get bigger speakers and build a Speaker plant tube thingy.

Basically dress up as any character from the Super Mario universe (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong) and wander through the course together. Find Super Mario costumes, accessories and ideas on Amazon.

Questions?

  • Do you need to pay for official Bay to Breakers entry? You probably should, but we won’t say anything.
  • Start Time? The Facebook page says 11:30am, but in the comments he says 10am.

The Story Behind Super Mario Bloco Party
– Brian Huy Mac

I was just in Brazil for Carnival and one of my favorite things was a BLOCO. Basically, they have a band playing where thousands of people meet up at a starting point, and then walk the streets drinking. The coolest one was this SUPER MARIO THEME one.

So for BAY TO BREAKERS, my goal is to get as many people dressed up as SUPER MARIO BROTHERS characters as possible (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Donkey Kong, etc.) to party together as we wander through the course.

Meet up Hayes Valley Park, and go together from there to GG Park. Gonna build a giant flower in a tube thing but will actually be battery powered DJ Speakers playing Super Mario Tunes + Hits, cardboard cut outs of characters and coins, so we can party along the route.
