Club of the Month | Southern Exposure

At Southern Exposure’s Club of the Month, each quarter a different artist offers a unique take on the idea of clubs by leading visitors through shared rituals, developing new skills together, and cultivating common interests.

Join one club or join them all—the more you participate, the more you’ll belong and meet other well-rounded people like you.

Dry Land Session | Club of the Month | Southern Exposure

The SoEx Swim Team dispels the myth that artists are bad at sports; come and learn more and no Speedo or experience is required (at least not at first).

The first session on July 25, 2013, is open to all, so come try a dry land class at Southern Exposure, where they’ll discuss the mechanics of good swimming, theories about swim training and conduct a Q&A for all of your unvoiced swimming concerns. All you need is a way to take diligent notes.

Your instructor, Erik Scollon is an artist and educator working out of Oakland, California. He is represented by Romer Young Gallery in San Francisco; he teaches at California College of the Arts and UC Berkeley. A life-long swimmer and coach, Erik was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Albion College, in 2011.

The second session will be off-site at Hamilton Pool on July 27, 2013 and will bring together theory and practice with drills, coaching and constructive feedback. Bring your swimsuit, goggles, and a towel. An RSVP for the second session is required. Capacity at Hamilton Pool is limited.
