Oakland’s Epic Halloween Yard Haunt & DIY Puppet Show | East Bay
Driveway Follies is a professionally-staged Halloween marionette show performed each year by Larry Schmidt in an Oakland driveway and is accompanied by an outstanding scary yard haunt. The locally recognized shows are enjoyed by over 1,000 Halloween revelers annually.
The show includes dozens of elaborate and intricate figures, backdrops, props, period music and sets – all built by hand by Driveway Follies artists. Director Larry Schmidt often adds new sequences so each year Driveway Follies presents a unique never-seen-before show comprised of vignettes about our now beloved characters.
Driveway Follies 2016
Preview nights (Driveway Follies only): Saturday-Sunday October 29 & 30
Driveway Follies & Yard Haunt: Monday, October 31
3854 Greenwood Ave., Oakland
FREE – Continuous shows after dark (start / end times may vary)
Adults are encouraged to come on the 29th and the 30th to see the puppets or come on Halloween after 9pm when the kiddies thin out
Larry Schmidt says, this free soft yard haunt is “a non-commercial, residential Halloween installation (usually in a front yard) which emphasizes the atmospheres of Halloween rather than gruesome shocks or repellent horror. They tend to be child-friendly. My interest in this uniquely American folk art, as well as my interest in the trick or treating custom, led me to the idea of this web site.”
> We hope you donate on indiegogo to help support this haunt.
