The Haunted Yard | 3854 Greenwood Ave., Oakland
Larry Schmidt puts on a free “Soft Yard Haunt” puppet and marionette show on Halloween Night from 7 – 9 PM in Oakland on October 31, 2012 called “Driveway Follies.“ The show runs about 10-15 minutes and is repeated throughout the night.
This is DIY folk art and truly imaginative in a classic vaudeville sense. Great for kids and for nostalgic adults. Adults without children are welcome after 9 PM on Halloween Night.
Larry Schmidt says, Free soft yard haunt is “a non-commercial, residential Halloween installation (usually in a front yard) which emphasizes the atmospheres of Halloween rather than gruesome shocks or repellent horror. They tend to be child-friendly.” My interest in this uniquely American folk art, as well as my interest in the trick or treating custom, led me to the idea of this web site.
Please note: We aren’t sure what time this event ends. Hautedbay.com states the hours are from 7 – 9 PM, but Larry Schmidt’s previous blog post states the event has gone until 10:45 PM in years past.
