Event Details

Join environmentally conscious people all over the globe by turning off your lights for one hour on Saturday night and instead light candles. Dozens of buildings, monuments (including the Golden Gate Bridge) will be turning off their non-essential lighting at 8:30pm on Saturday March 27, 2010.

Going beyond just turning off the lights, you can participate by going Beyond The Hour and pledging publicly to do something that is good for the environment or healthy for the planet. It can be something large or small. For example, someone in Berkeley pledged to “own only what I need, not what I want” while a guy in SF pledged to “pee in the shower once a day instead of using the toilet.” Once you’ve pledged you can publicize it on Facebook or Tweeter.

About Earth Hour 2010: On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people, organizations, corporations and governments around the world will come together to make a bold statement about their concern for climate change by doing something quite simple–turning off their lights for one hour.

Participation is easy. By flipping off your lights on March 27th at 8:30 p.m. local time you will be making the switch to a cleaner, more secure nation and prosperous America. View the toolkits, to find out what else you can do to get involved including leading the Earth Hour movement in your community.
