Mundo Maya 12.12.12: Mayan Calendar Celebration | Mission Dist.

Galeria de La Raza presents their new exhibit Mundo Maya 12:12:12: A Celebration of the Mayan Culture & Calendar with works by Latino/Mayan youth in collaboration with artist Roberto Y. Hernandez.

This four day celebration will include an opening reception, a maiz celebration, a ceremony for La Virgen de Guadalupe and a ceremony for the end of the Mayan Calendar. All are free and open to the public.

Opening Reception: Thursday, December 6, 2012 – 6:00 p.m.
Exhibition runs December 6 – December 29, 2012

Associated programs include:

  • Maize Celebration: Saturday, December 8, 2012 – 12 noon – 6:00 p.m.
    Sample Maya foods made from corn: Tamales, Pupusas, Nacatamales, Quesadillas, Chica, Tortillas, Pan Dulce, Empanadas, Tacos, Gorditas, Bunuelos, Atole, Chamurrado, Albodigas in collaboration with La Cocina, Accion Latina, BRAVA Theater, La Victoria, Casa Sanchez, and Chaac – Mool
  • Ceremonia para La Virgin de Guadalupe: Saturday, December 12, 2012 – 6:00 p.m.
    Dinastia Torres, all-female mariachi group pay tribute to La Virgen De Guadalupe
  • End of the Mayan Calendar Ceremonia: Friday, December 21, 2012 – 6:00 p.m.
    Attend an Indigenous Mayan ceremony to commemorate the official end of the Mayan calendar.
