Dolores Park | San Francisco
‘Be The Light’ presents the first annual Sky Lantern Festival in Dolores Park on March 20, 2013 with drummers, musicians, fire dancers and food for sale from regular Dolores Park vendors, like the Tamale Lady.
>> Please note this event has been canceled for 2013 due to permitting issues (updated 3/8/13)
Come celebrate and welcome back the light with the change of seasons on the first crispy Spring night.
Wear white, bring a seven day candle (one of those tall ones in a glass container you can find at many stores in the Mission) and bring a lantern or get one at the festival. Lantern lighting will be after the fire dancing session and will probably be lit by the dancers themselves.

Bring your wishes, prayers and loving energy to release into the world and color the night sky through the power of positive thinking.
In the past and in many places around the world, those who worked or farmed in the mountains faced the risk of being robbed or killed. They would light lanterns into the sky to inform their families they were safe. The lanterns do not function as signals anymore, but are now used to throw wishes into the sky symbolic of peace and good fortune.
