“Faith Against Fracking” Open Discussion | Castro Valley

A free event, sponsored by the Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church of Hayward will take place at the Castro Valley Library, 3600 Norbridge Ave., Castro Valley on Sunday, August 30th, at 1:30 PM. The Library is about two blocks from the Castro Valley BART Station.

Two films discussing extraction of fossil fuels through the process of fracking will be shown. “Faith against Fracking” features several faith leaders who will share their concerns about the procedure’s effects on global warming, contamination of water resources, especially during our State’s severe drought. Spiritual and moral issues will be discussed.

The second film, “Back Yard” contains interviews with people have lived in direct proximity to fracking operations. They will share their personal experiences, and how it has affected their lives, their livestock, their pets, creeks and rivers, and how it has impacted their health.

Should we continue to allow fracking and other extreme methods of extracting oil from the earth in California? Should it be allowed in Alameda County? What measures can those of us who oppose these procedures take?

An open discussion to voice differing views will follow the showing of the films.

In attendance will be some of the participants in the film, along with one of the co-producers of “Faith against Fracking,” Jessica Wohlander.
