Event Details

Join in celebrating the exhibition opening of Tabitha Soren’s Fantasy Life, an epic, 15-year photo-based project that takes viewers behind the scenes of minor and major league baseball.

If the name Tabitha Soren sounds familiar, you might remember her as former news anchor and reporter for MTV, ABC News and NBC News.

This exhibition marks the Bay Area premiere of Fantasy Life, and it is the largest exhibition of this body of work in the world to date. In addition to the exhibition, Aperture recently released the book version of Fantasy Life, which features commentary by select players and a five-part short story by Dave Eggers.

“Fantasy Life” Opening Reception
Thursday, July 20, 2017 | 5 to 7:30 pm
San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place
FREE

In historic SF City Hall’s North Light Court, just off the main Rotunda, see ten large-scale photographic banners depicting tintypes of SF Giants and their field team members in action. These tintypes, by renowned photographer Tabitha Soren, show the players in action, capturing vital shots of these incredible athletes.

On the ground floor, there will be 180 photographs of players from teams across the country on and off the field, ball parks, fans and coaches – but don’t expect a simple American Dream story.

Soren earned the trust of players, coaches and owners who gave her access to intimate moments and restricted areas in order to create compassionate, revealing, extremely honest images that often subvert general notions/assumptions of heroism, power and fame.

Schedule:

  • Curator and Artist Led Walk-Thru, 5–6 pm
  • Opening Reception, 5:30-7:30 pm
Exhibition Dates: July 20 – December 15, 2017Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
