First Friday Shorts | The New Parkway

Please Note: First Friday Shorts is on hiatus. There will be no upcoming screenings until further notice.

First Friday Shorts screens short films by Bay Area filmmakers and media arts organizations using film and video to tell stories not usually seen or heard.

Join The New Parkway and discover local filmmaker talent and learn something new about your Bay Area community.

First Friday Shorts puts women’s visions and stories center stage by featuring short films from Bay Area Women in Film and Media (BAWIFM) from 6-8 pm on August 2, 2013.

All of the filmmakers will be present for a Q&A.

Featured films include:

Tarantula Arms, Vita Wolfe
A time-based hula-hoop performance in the brush of California, to the melodic intonations of a song by The Sandwitches, an American garage-folk San Francisco band.

Award Winning Gir, N’jeri Eaton
One woman’s quest to find love online.

Driving Visions, Sara Newens
A visually compelling, fly-on-the-wall look at bikers that offers an almost tangible rendition of the feeling of being on the road.

Living Inside Out, Erin Persley
An experimental documentary that explores the lasting impact of incarceration by intertwining the experiences of three women going through the reentry process.

The Raw, Shantre’ Pinkney
Keith, a young man living in a violent neighborhood in San Francisco, is looked upon to protect a wayward friend.

Kuna Ni Nanang (My Mother Said), Jessica Siso
This experimental documentary lyrically portrays 99 year-old Elena Bautista and her reflections on her long life, her mother’s death and her own impending death, which she faces fearlessly.

Moonless, Maria Judice
A traveler reluctantly returns to Earth.

16 Seeds, Melinda James
This documentary examines the roles that people of color play in the struggle for food justice, from a community organizer’s journey of increasing the visibility of black farmers to the groundwork of an elder seeking to preserve family traditions.

Founded in 2001, Bay Area Women in Film and Media’s goal is to help women media-makers connect, create, and be inspired. They offer creative and professional support to members through monthly meetings, special events, and an active on-line community.
